Jaguar XE SV Project 8 gunning for Nurburgring record – report
The manic Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is looking to set a new record at the famed Nurburgring circuit, with its sights firmly set on beating the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio around the ‘Green Hell’.
According to a report by Autocar, Jaguar development drivers are currently pushing the super sedan to its limit around the iconic German track, with the aim of setting a new lap record in the company’s most powerful road-going vehicle ever.
The article adds that the Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) golden child is approaching the end of its pre-production program, with first customer deliveries scheduled for May 2018.
Under the bonnet is a version of the company’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8, pumping out 441kW of power at 6500rpm and 700Nm of torque between 3500 and 5000rpm. With drive sent to all four wheels via a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, the XE SV Project 8 dashes from 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds, 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 322km/h (200mph).
With those figures, the British super sedan eclipses the claims of all its rivals, including the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, BMW M3, and the Mercedes-AMG C63 S – though all three are rear-wheel drive only.
Currently, the four-door production car record at the ‘Ring stands at 7 minutes 32 seconds, set by the Alfa. However, the Project 8’s advantage lies in its skew towards track use from the start, unlike its road-biased rivals.
In the UK, the left-hand-drive only XE SV Project 8 is priced from an eye-watering 149,995 pounds ($253,731). Unfortunately there are no plans to bring the limited-edition model to Australia, while production is capped to just 300 units globally.
