2019 Rolls-Royce Cullinan spied inside and out
The 2019 Rolls-Royce Cullinan has been spied again this week, with the interior snapped by photographers for the first time.
Pitched as an “all-terrain, high-sided vehicle” – Rolls-Royce refuses to use such a pedestrian term as ‘SUV’ – the Cullinan will essentially be a shorter, jacked-up version of the Phantom with a wagon-like tail.
Like the limousine, the Cullinan will wear the latest interpretation of the British marque’s front grille, while the all-new scalable aluminium spaceframe platform that debuted in the Phantom will form the basis of the high-end crossover.
What’s really news this time around is the interior, which has been spied for the first time. Most of the major cabin elements are concealed under black sheets, though it’s clear the overall design will draw heavily upon the Phantom’s cockpit.
The steering wheel, which is almost identical to the rim seen in the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series, is likely a temporary solution.
Digital instruments and a large centre infotainment screen can be seen in these images, though they’ll likely be refined as the development process continues.
In terms of powertrains, expect the first versions of the Cullinan to use a twin-turbo V12 petrol engine like the wider Rolls-Royce range, though all-electric versions are likely to be added soon after.
A 2019 debut has been confirmed for the company’s first SUV, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the final design shows up late next year.
